South African songstress Kelly Khumalo successfully kicked off her “From A God To A King” tour on Saturday at Carnival City

For a moment, the award-winning songstress put behind the pressure and stress of being in the news over her alleged involvement in the tragic passing of her boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa and entertained those who attended the concert.

In what came as a surprise to Kelly Khumalo burst into Oliver Mtukudzi’s hit song Neria right before singing her hit Asine.

A video that was shared by Zimbabwean actress Mbo Mahocs shows Khumalo singing in flawless Shona. The songstress who was putting on a predominantly yellow outfit sang part of the chorus to Oliver Mtukudzi’s classic Neria.

In a previous interview on SABC 2’s Afro Cafe, Kelly Khumalo declared that she had fallen in love with the country’s music, particularly that of Oliver Mtukudzi.

The “From A God To A King” concert on Saturday was a blend of Afropop, gospel and soul featuring performances from Kelly Khumalo, her live band and a host of guests including Sjava, Mondlo Ngcobo, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Zakwe and Mthunzi.

Tickets to the concert started from R350 to R750. Media personality and Kelly Khumalo’s longtime friend Somizi Mhlongo hosted the show.

The concert also saw Kelly Khumalo debuting songs from her upcoming album From A God To A King. More concert dates for the From A God To A King” tour are expected to be announced soon as this will be a multi-city tour.
